How Intelligent are you to become a Leader?

For a person to become a leader, he need to have his emotions under control. Not only that, he should be able to understand his team's emotion and act accordingly.

This is the era where leaders need to be very dynamic and effective else new leaders will evolve and you will get lost.  For this, you need to be emotionally smart .  Your EQ needs to be better than your IQ.

Emotional Intelligence is a concept introduced by Daniel Goleman and it is being used across globe.  Emotional Intelligence shortly known as EI is very helpful tool to be an able leader since leadership requires good communication to influence others.

Every human being is emotional and how do you motivate them using their emotion is very important.  What is more important is how you motivate yourself than anything else?

So these are the traits of emotional Intelligence you need to consider:

Emotional Self Awareness:

the ability to identify your own emotions and those of others;

. The ability to harness emotions and apply them to tasks like thinking and problems solving

The ability to manage emotions, including the ability to regulate your own emotions, and the ability to cheer up or calm down another person.

Self Regulation:

The ability to control or redirect disruptive impulses and moods, and the propensity to suspend judgment and to think before acting. Hallmarks include trustworthiness and integrity; comfort with ambiguity; and openness to change.

Internal Motivation:

A passion to work for internal reasons that go beyond money and status -which are external rewards, - such as an inner vision of what is important in life, a joy in doing something, curiosity in learning, a flow that comes with being immersed in an activity. A propensity to pursue goals with energy and persistence. Hallmarks include a strong drive to achieve, optimism even in the face of failure, and organizational commitment.


The ability to understand the emotional makeup of other people. A skill in treating people according to their emotional reactions. Hallmarks include expertise in building and retaining talent, cross-cultural sensitivity, and service to clients and customers.   It is important to note that empathy does not necessarily imply compassion. Empathy can be 'used' for compassionate or cruel behavior. Serial killers who marry and kill many partners in a row tend to have great emphatic skills!

Social Skills:

Proficiency in managing relationships and building networks, and an ability to find common ground and build rapport. Hallmarks of social skills include effectiveness in leading change, persuasiveness, and expertise building and leading teams.

So how do you fit yourself in this?  If you lack in someplace, do not worry, you can still grow it to become an effective and Charismatic leader.  Charismatic leaders are known to influence the people emotions effectively and regulate their own based on the situations.  As you know you are communicating with people with emotions and not people with logic.
